Publication of the conservative Iranian newspaper
Kayhan (کيهان) was suspended yesterday and today, after its main headline on 6th November ("شلیک موشک انصارالله به ریاض هدف بعدی، دوبی") speculated that Houthis in Yemen could fire a missile at the Saudi Arabian capital, Dubai. Iran has already been accused by Saudi Arabia of supplying missiles to the Houthis.
Several other Iranian newspapers have previously been suspended, or had their licences revoked.
Shargh (شرق), the ideological opposite of
Kayhan, was
shut down in 2012 over a cartoon.
Mardom-e Emrooz (مردم امروز) was
closed down in 2015 after it printed an Arabic translation of "Je suis Charlie" in solidarity with the French satirical newspaper
Charlie Hebdo.
